There are many reasons for a child to be upset early in the morning.
Perhaps, had a nightmare, did not sleep well, sick…etc Even for adults, we do have days where we were at the wrong side of the bed. Thus, the worst situation is when parent “DEMAND” their child to get up or a remarks “Not again” or “What’s the matter with you…”
Instead, backup and give them some time. No child wishes to wake up “unhappily”, try saying something positive and encouraging, especially showing care and love, letting they know that you care.
“Honey, I’ll leave you alone for a while. When you feel better, please come to me quickly. I really missing you, missing your bright smile to start my day!”
Please be aware that all human (including child) have emotion. By backing up, provide the child a space and an opportunity to learn to handle their negative feeling. By adding some “naughty” humor, will brighten up a child day and distract them to be out of their emotion.
Please respect them, they are also human! Maybe next time try something funny,
“Dear, I dreamt of you having fun playing hide-and-seek with me at the beach, where were you hiding?…”
